The Verdehr Trio Legacy

Before 1971 there existed only about a dozen pieces for this type of chamber group.  The 100-plus works that have been composed since that time, by leading composers from around the world, is the direct result of commissioning projects championed by the Verdehr Trio, a chamber ensemble in residence at Michigan State University who are the artistic mentors for the Sapphire Trio.  The Sapphire Trio is committed to continuing the legacy established by the Verdehr Trio, and in particular the performance of music for this medium by living composers.  Their concerts include explanations of the music in engaging and creative ways.  They are also committed to upholding the art of chamber music as an exciting and dynamic performance genre, and to bring to every concert an artistic presentation of the highest quality.
